The food and beverage product development cycle can range anywhere from simple to complex. Each company has its own way of managing the process with no two being the same. Many times, small volume and/or business process flow provides companies sufficient process management – either there is a small number of products being developed within a calendar year or perhaps the steps required are limited. That said, some companies have many products within their development pipeline, while others have a robust and complex set of steps within their cycle. To accommodate these companies, PSC has enabled Microsoft Dynamics Project Service Automation functionality to work within its Microsoft Dynamics 365 Formula and Recipe Management (FRM) solution.

Dynamics Project Service Automation (PSA) provides full project management functionality. It exposes capabilities that are congruent with Microsoft project so those familiar with that trusted project management platform will find Project Service to have a similar set of features. The primary idea behind using Project Service in FRM is taking the product development cycle and weaving it into a traditional project structure. Roles, teams, and responsibilities are clearly defined in each product development effort and across projects. Tasks, goals, milestones, and stage gates are also leveraged to provide maximum structure to any development cycle. Viewing the structure and progress of each project is as easy as displaying the familiar Gantt chart, aggregating all the elements into a usable, robust and powerful tool. What’s more, each project structure can be saved into a reusable template making the creation of each project a simple task when each product concept is introduced.

Dynamics Project Service Automation integrates with PSC's Dynamics Formula and Recipe Management

Within each project, the FRM entities referenced are easily accessed at each stage. For example, if the current project task is to review a particular formula, a link to that formula will be shown in the task and will take the user to that particular record in the FRM solution. Or perhaps the final stage in the project is for a product manager to sign off and approve a finished good. The link to the finished good will take that manager (or members of a management group) to the finished good item in the FRM solution. The Project Service module is completely integrated within Dynamics to the FRM solution. There is no need to change applications, no need to close windows, and no need to load anything new. The Project functionality resides side-by-side with the FRM platform.

With product development processes becoming more robust and complex, there is a need for tools to assist. When basic business process flow is not sufficient, full-featured project management can be utilized to handle the development cycle. PSC’s Microsoft Dynamics 365 Formula and Recipe Management (FRM) enables the Dynamics Project Service Automation functionality to bring the needed structure and protocol to provide a well-managed and highly scalable FRM solution.
